Thank you for your partnership with Water is Life Ethiopia. Merrie and I always marvel at the incredible hope and happiness that clean water brings to very remote villages where women and young girls endure a daily struggle to meet the family need for this indispensable resource. On our most recent visit, we participated in a community celebration where a new solar-powered system delivered clean, cool water up a mountain several kilometers away from the well.
Turku Wako, the village matriarch, stood up at the celebration and said she could not even dream of the relief and wonder of having drinking water at her doorstep. She was ecstatic and filled with thanksgiving. She now has the ability to drink disease-free water and to decide to do something productive with the valuable time she now saves from hauling heavy containers. She can decide to participate in a Sustainable Living Team (SLT) where her abilities will grow with new skills and opportunities. Turku’s ability to access new resources was derived from a donor like you who gave generously out of their abundance to construct the water system and form the SLT.
In stark contrast, Kadejah is a four-year old girl who lives on a different mountain than Turku and doesn’t have a tap to turn for clean water. We saw Kadejah fall on the rocks while collecting polluted water at a stream several kilometers from her village. She was not physically injured but her sad expectation is to carry heavy burdens of water just like her mother and grandmother have done all their lives. Together with your financial gift, we can change her destiny by bringing clean water to her community. We already know just the place to drill a new well and put in another solar system to pump water up the mountain, but we can’t afford it without your help. Please help Kadejah have a different future so she can use her precious abilities for better purposes.
It gives us great joy to participate with Spirit-in-action as we each learn to use our own abilities with God to build dignity, responsibility and productivity, whether in America of Africa. We are on an amazing journey of Love together. Thanks for your partnership with Water is Life Ethiopia.
Grace and peace, David Harding
