Water is Life Ethiopia

The Ethiopian water crisis is deepening. But Water is Life Ethiopia is bringing hope to a nation, one well at a time.

Our Water Well Projects in Ethiopia

Even as you read this, we have experts on the ground, managing our water well projects in Ethiopia. Each project is designed to bring more than just water. Our wells offer hope, transform lives, and empower women.

Wells of Life

A cruel irony lurks behind the Ethiopian water crisis: The apparent water scarcity in Ethiopia is only skin deep. Even as children risk their lives simply to drink, Ethiopia’s water resources lie dormant and waiting.

The presence of this life-giving water, just meters beneath the bone-dry earth, inspires our work. With the help of modern tools, some Ethiopian sweat, and a little money, this vital resource can be tapped. Lives will be transformed and, like water, hope and empowerment will flow.

Empowering Ethiopia’s Women

Ethiopia’s women exist in a horrific cycle of poverty and oppression. It’s the women of Ethiopia who make the long journeys to fetch contaminated water for their families. Young girls learn this responsibility from the earliest age, carrying up to 50Ibs of water for miles every day. All too often, their fragile young bodies are broken by the strain. The playful years of youth are lost and good health is taken away.

Just as we tap the water hidden beneath their feet, Water is Life Ethiopia strives to tap the hidden potential in the women and girls of Ethiopia. Learn how we deliver clean water and promote sustainable living techniques. See how these women’s natural desire for learning, self-leadership, and income generation is blossoming…

About Water is Life Ethiopia

Founded in 2006, Water is Life Ethiopia has been bringing clean water to the country’s rural poor for over a decade. To date, we’ve completed more than 450 water well projects in Ethiopia. As a result, an incredible 300,000 people now have convenient access to a clean, safe water supply.

What’s in a Name?

Inspired by the aim of bringing clean water to the whole world, we originally founded as Water is Life International. But our team soon recognized that success is best achieved one step at a time. With its entrenched poverty and alarming infant mortality rates, Ethiopia is more than deserving of our full attention.

Although we still accept donations under our old name – Water is Life International – we now focus all of our efforts on ending Ethiopia’s water crisis, one well at a time.

Is Water is Life Ethiopia Affiliated With WaterisLife.com?

No, while we respect the work of others in our field, Water is Life Ethiopia is an independent non-profit, and we have no affiliation with other organizations with similar names. We respectfully ask our supporters to donate or make bequests carefully, to ensure that vital funds reach us as intended.
